18th Feb. -1st Mar. 2019: Pradarshak presents “Varna Sutra” acrylic on canvas paintings by Sachin Akalekar
Throughout his creative journey, Sachin Akalekar has established an intimate dialogue with nature, using paintings as a process to explore its mystical, surreal and the spiritual aspects. In the current suit of works, the artist depicts the close relationship of human beings with nature as well as the divine. “Nature is my guiding principle to portray luminous notions that inspire my artistic mind. In my art, I aim to create imaginary new worlds, merging the literal and the metaphorical”, adds the artist.

Fascinated by the simple yet manifold labyrinth pattern of the dried autumn leaves, Akalekar captures the swirling and fluttering leaves in perfect abstraction, leaving only hints of its chassis on the canvas. “I am simply awestruck by the manner one life gives way to another life or an old leaf sheds itself for a new leaf to sprout”, exclaims the artist. Pulsating with energy and cadence, his works are replete with textural nuances, creating depth and perspective in the frame. The radiant earthy colour schema and finesse of rendering various techniques adds to the overall effect.
In the strikingly unconventional composition, figures from Indian philosophy and mythology carefully find their place in the setting. Reminiscent of Indian Miniature paintings, these figures narrate familiar tales and fables – lived and heard. The treatment evokes a certain meditative atmosphere within the paintings. Another recurring element is the Chapha flower (plumeria) which symbolizes spring, new life and new beginning emphasizing on the underlying theme of the continuity of life.
Sachin Akalekar’s art creates harmonious energies that express feelings of transcendence, balance, and oneness. This is indeed an attempt by the artist to seek the rhythm of life and the essence of one’s existence.
