A prolific artist working in the realistic figurative realm, Sanjay Raut has repeatedly chosen the theme of bal brahmans in his painting series. A very stark yet vulnerable portrayal of Brahmin children at play, at work, etc., focusses on the innocence that seems to draw the viewer into the realm of the canvas, drawing a silent contrast between them and the children of the other routine world, as we see them.

The strength of his brush work renders a visual captivity to the canvases. Sanjay forays into creating a fresco-like backdrop, where he painstakingly weaves a corresponding narrative. His imagery is experienced through both, the intricate backdrops and the large expressive eyes, blissfully happy faces and corresponding yellow ochres, ultramarines and oranges. The underlying thought exemplifies simplicity that is the cornerstone of life per se. The artist is especially creative at toying with various elements of chiaroscuro rendering a depth that goes beyond the sustainable depiction of his canvases.

Sanjay Raut is a graduate of fine art from the Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya Pune and has held several solo and group exhibitions till date. He resides in Mumbai.
