People chase their dreams, more so as a figure of speech; Charusshila does this literally! The upcoming artist, who used to repeatedly dream of elephants has taken her subconscious preoccupation with the animal much further by getting into a soulful study and adopting it as her artistic muse.

Pouring through the huge animal’s various characteristics, she has delved deep to understand both – the African and Indian elephants – their postures, mannerisms, habits etc. Spending hours looking at the animal in a zoo, she has sharpened her anatomical skills. Cultivating a distinct philosophy native to her artistic expression, the young artist introduces the symbolic motif of the flower and especially focusses on the small glazed eyes, which she says, belie its gigantic form and aver to humility. Such is the ethos of each of her works that depict the animal – more so in a decorative avatar, referencing its ceremonial existence.

As a developing artist, playing on the existential qualities of her muse, she pays homage to a host of human values, attempting in her own way to draw out an experience that engages the viewer to look beyond the huge form and delve into its humanistic qualities. The highlight of each work of art, is therefore the treatment to the ‘eye’!
