An artist’s journey is a melange of premeditated and impromptu musings – where the two separate and where the twain meets is oft a matter of much debate. Young artist Rohan Dumbre is one who abides by ‘change is constant’. In that, he is always evolving – with regard to technique, choice of medium, choice of subject… “I never think of it as a disadvantage of consistency; rather, I feel it is the natural instincts of human life to move and explore,” he informs.

A gold medallist from the Rachna Sansad school of fine art, Mumbai and currently into preparing art syllabi for an educational setup, Rohan’s penchant for art extends to photography and performance art. His tryst with these different avenues of expression mingle with his creative oeuvre as a painter and the results are as inspiring and astounding as they are inane.

In this solo exhibition, Rohan focuses on the study of the head.  Various heads emerge from his repertoire as a painter, photographer and digital artist. They are born out of the multiple observations made during travelling, teaching students, observing a performance etc. He explains, “Vibrant colours and strokes remain the heart of my works. I am never stuck to a single medium as I find it monotonous. This is another reason why I do not maintain a diary or keep any records”.

So, whilst the series on “Talking Heads” throws light on the undercurrents that drive the artist, they also add up in his list of inspirations and he hopes to take them to another platform - transforming them into sculptures and some new experimentation with photography and even performance.
